Community Stories: How One Journey of Healing Became a Journey of Service
Sometimes the smallest steps forward become the beginning of something much bigger.
For many people, healing isn't a straight path. It unfolds one day at a time—through patience, perseverance, and the support of a caring community.
For Love Peace Harmony community member Valerie Cook, what began as her own journey of recovery gradually became a journey of giving back.
After spending nearly two years in rehabilitation following an injury, Valerie found herself embracing simple daily Love Peace Harmony practices while focusing on rebuilding her strength, one step at a time.
Along the way, something unexpected happened.
As she continued moving forward, the people around her noticed too.
Doctors.
Therapists.
Friends.
And eventually, new opportunities to serve her community began to open.
Valerie recently shared:
"I am so grateful and touched by the transformations through daily Love Peace Harmony singing and tracing. I am, and have been, on a slow 2-year rehabilitation journey of my own.
Everywhere and everyone I have had the honor of Interacting with on this journey, doctors, therapists etc. have also been noticing the transformations and my determination.
Last year I was able to serve at community wellness expos, 3 of them, at Tribal health center, and also a weekly song circle in community. I’m currently serving at a bi-weekly song circle outdoors, weather permitting.
Recently, while visiting a past client, current friend & elder at an assisted living center, I felt inspired and supported to serve there. The facility is so nice. I’m now meeting with the activities director and applying to offer Love Peace Harmony adaptive and unique activities & services.
As I continue taking slow small steps in my own physical recovery after an injury, I am feeling so grateful and blessed to say yes, to transform, so that I could serve in a neighboring larger city an hour from my home, in the City of Redding, in the county of Shasta.
Love Peace Harmony has truly saved my life, helped me rebuild everything, including my soul’s journey and more. I am grateful to serve and share as much as possible."
Valarie's story reminds us that healing and service are deeply connected.
Often, as we begin nurturing ourselves, we naturally become more available to support those around us.
This is the heart of the Love Peace Harmony Foundation.
Our three pillars—Nurture Yourself, Support Others, and Heal the Planet—are not separate ideas. They grow from one another.
When we invest in our own wellbeing, we often discover renewed strength, fresh purpose, and a desire to contribute in ways we may never have imagined.
Sometimes the greatest act of resilience isn't simply overcoming a challenge.
It's choosing to use your experience to bring hope, encouragement, and compassion to someone else's journey.
